England Coach Southee Uncertain on The Ashes Participation
The bowler's most recent Test match for the Kiwis was versus the English side in December 2024.
England fast-bowling advisor Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the forthcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.
The former New Zealand pace bowler is only likely to be present for the first Test due to his involvement in the International League T20 tournament, which starts on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.
Southee, 36, assumed a position as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the summer after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Commenting as England's squad for the first of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was announced, he stated of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the present time.
"We will determine what happens over the coming days."
English bowling legend Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the contest, which begins on 21 November.
"In my view there's ever a bad Aussie side," he said.
"The team's attention is squarely on our own objectives. In my opinion the caliber of [England's] team that's going out to Australia is brilliant.
"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."
But, before England travel to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on the Kiwis in the city of Christchurch on this Saturday.
