Jurgen Klopp admits a return to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that returning someday remains an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, now holds roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed England's top flight in the previous campaign, though countless followers who adore the manager would be thrilled by the idea of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I will never coach any other side within the country. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, he confessed he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “No longing for management; I avoid standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad having a nice chat, is pleasant. With many victories so there was often great spirits at the club. I still have Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, though he denied the idea of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in while in charge, along with the consequences at the club. The forward lost his life in a road accident with his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. I still cannot speak properly about it. A devastating blow for the entire squad too. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it for poor performances but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
