Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
