Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Response
The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
