The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:
- Every squad has just 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while another lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
