The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
