The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
